Shakira Thomas, Pre-Licensed Counselor ( Located in person and virtually in PA)
I am a therapist who integrates resilience and clinical expertise to support individuals, couples, and families on their journey toward healing and wholeness. My approach is warm, compassionate, and structured, providing a safe space where clients can process challenges, build secure connections, and discover their inner strength.
I take a holistic perspective on therapy, attending not only to psychological needs but also to relational, cultural, and somatic experiences—such as how stress manifests in the body. Informed by my own experiences navigating grief, anxiety, and resilience within the context of community hardship, I strive to hold space for clients with deep empathy and without judgment.
Grounded in psychological training and a respect for lived experience, I believe healing happens when clients feel truly seen and supported. My areas of focus include strengthening attachment and intimacy within relationships, navigating grief and anxiety, and addressing the impact of trauma.
My ideal client is open to learning about their mental health and willing to engage in a collaborative process of growth. I don’t expect clients to arrive with all the answers—just a willingness to explore, learn, and apply tools that support stability and meaningful change. Common issues I work with include depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, relationship and family strain, work-related stress, substance use concerns, and anger management.
To best meet each client’s unique needs, I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
Clients often describe me as empathetic, nurturing, and steady, while also appreciating the clarity and structure I bring to therapy. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals, couples, and families to move beyond cycles of fear or disconnection, embrace their resilience, and live with greater meaning, freedom, and connection.
